Riga Stradins University

About University

  Riga Stradins University is a worldwide famous and modern educational institution in Riga. It was established in 1950 and was accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia. The university provides a wide range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs for both international and national students. Riga Stradins University is famous for its high quality of education and a top-10 ranking in Latvia. Currently, 10.000 students are studying at the university including 4.500 international students. The Student Community of Riga Stradins University has brought together the representatives of 70 countries from the EU, the USA, and Asia.  Riga Stradins University guarantees the recognition of the degrees acquired by all the EU and the EEA Member States, according to the Convention of Lisbon. The degrees obtained at RSU are recognized in Sri Lanka, China, India, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, and Jordan. Riga Stradins University Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) is the only simulation center in Latvia and the largest one in the Baltics. The Centre has the appropriate infrastructure and equipment to ensure the acquisition and improvement of medical skills, as well as the implementation of simulation programs in various healthcare sectors.  Riga Stradins University provides free access to all the Research and Scientific Laboratories. It provides students, residents, and doctoral students with the opportunity to develop scientific research works and adapt scientific research and assessment instruments according to modern scientific requirements. RSU provides study placements in various international hospitals for students who speak the language of the respective country. Riga Stradins University cooperates with various medical institutions both in Latvia (Genome database of Latvian population, Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital, Children Clinical University Hospital, etc.) and abroad ( Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of Hereditary Pathology, etc.) Studies at Riga Stradins University are integrated with Clinical Practice. Students obtain the basic theoretical material of their chosen specialty by practicing at RSU Clinical Hospitals and the main Medical Treatment and Scientific Institutions in Latvia. Students can also undergo overseas internships at partner hospitals in Germany, France, Poland, and many other countries in the EU.  The credit system at Riga Stradins University differs from the ECTS credit system, but credits and awarded degrees are recognized abroad. One Latvian credit equals 1,5 ECTS credits approximately, which means that one complete study year has 40 credits (equals 60 ECTS).

Accommodation

  Modern and renovated RSU Student Accommodation Houses are situated right next to the RSU main building. The location makes it possible to get to the University on foot in 10 minutes. The new three-story hostel comprises 135 rooms, ten of which are adjusted to accommodate people with disabilities.  Rooms adapted for people with various mobility disorders are larger. The furniture is lowered and showers and toilets have been adapted (shower chair, grab bars, help buttons, and adjustable mirrors). Student rooms consist of bedding, furniture, a kitchen area, and a bathroom. The rooms are fully furnished and equipped with a fridge and an extractor hood.  Each room has a bed with a pillow, blanket, bed sheets, desk, chair, shelf, and closet. Please note that students must provide their kitchenware (utensils, pans, pots, etc.). Students are also provided with educational and entertainment facilities, lockable bicycle storage, self-service laundry facilities, and rooms specifically designed for exercise, fitness, and wellness.

  The EKA has a vast amount of signed cooperation agreements with various educational establishments and organizations. The EKA is a member of the Baltic University Programme that unites 160 universities in 14 countries of the Baltic Sea region. State Border Guard College

About College

  State Border Guard College was established in 1992 in Rezekne, Latvia. It is a professional higher education institution established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia under the supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which provides an opportunity for persons with secondary education (border guards) who entered the college to receive first-level professional higher education. The Border Guard Training Center in 1998  received the status of the Rezekne College of the Border Guard and was accredited as the Border Guard Annual Basic Training Program, thus gaining the right to conduct professional training of border guards and issue generally recognized diplomas of secondary vocational education for graduates.   Albert College is an educational institution, which administrates the first level of the highest professional educational programs related to different specialties. Exchanging Programs

  Alberta College takes part in numerous exchange programs and collaboration agreements to promote the spreading of technical knowledge and skills and exchange experiences and cultural habits of different cultures all over the world.  Erasmus intensive program is a short-term study program, which is carried out by at least three different life-long learning program participants of teachers and students from various higher educational institutions. This program is aimed at introducing new innovative knowledge about teaching, possibilities of skills development, access to information, as well as mastering a topic in an International environment, where both students and teachers share ideas. They also share their creative interactive work methods in the process of work. As a result of this mutual work, new ideas on how to improve curriculum contents and the study process itself are produced. On the agenda of the intensive program are lectures, active discussions, teamwork, and cultural events in the evenings. There are active study periods, when all the involved sides get new knowledge, impression, and new friends. Students' work within this project is evaluated by ECTS. The minimum Intensive program lasts 10 days; the maximum length of the intensive program is 6 weeks.

About Institute

  Riga Aeronautical Institute (RAI) is one of the oldest educational institutions in Latvia with rich experience and traditions of training specialists in the aviation and transport sphere. RAI, founded in 1942 as a school of training for aviation specialists, in 1989 became an institution of higher education with many years of successful experience in work on the international market of educational service. About 1500 students study in RAI including branches of the institute in Rezekne and Daugavpils. National Defence Academy of Latvia

About Academy

  The National Defence Academy of Latvia is the state educational establishment of higher education in Riga, Latvia. It has continually sought to be at the forefront of professional military education to ensure its graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges they will face throughout their careers in war and peace.  It was established on 13 February 1992 as the Academy of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Latvia. Research Units

  The National Defence Academy of Latvia (NDAL) Center for Defence Research (Center) was established in 1992 as a part of the NDAL.   Latvian Maritime Academy in Riga was established in 1789. Cooperation

  Since 2012 the Latvian Maritime Academy (LMA) is an active member of cooperation agreements between European universities and educational organizations. It take part in the EU Lifelong learning program’s project “Yacht Rigging and Ship Engineering International Practice”, which took place in Valencia, Spain. In the summer of 2015 the project was held under the ERASMUS+ program and the geography of the project was widened – students went for practice in the Republic of Malta, Valencia Spain, and Limassol Cyprus.   ERASMUS practice placement projects have been carried out every year since 2012. During practice, students work in yacht ports and shipyards and according to their specialty obtain practical experience in rigging and maintenance works on sailing ships and boats, as well as gain working and communication skills in an international environment. They work side by side with entrepreneurs and co-workers, and each participant has his mentor. Before the practice, they take the Linguistic and Cultural preparation course, which is provided within the project program. After completing the practice, the students obtain EUROPASS Mobility Documents, certificates from the workplace, and language preparation, which increase their competitiveness in the labor market.

About Academy

  The Latvian Academy of Culture was established on the 29th of December, 1990 by a decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia. The Latvian Academy of Culture administers accredited academic Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral study programs and focuses on the preparation of specialists in arts and culture. In 2020 the Academy has created two international graduate programs - Growth Management and Creative Industry and Cultural Heritage Governance and Communication. Daugavpils Medical School

About School

   Daugavpils Medical School was founded in 1945 in Daugavpils, Latvia. In 1954, the School began to provide a studying process for not only nurses but also paramedics. With the increasing number of students, the school building was expanded, too. Within the period from 1970 until 1974, a new three-story building was built making it possible to increase significantly the number of students and academic staff.  Daugavpils Medical College (DMK) was accreditated as a higher educational institution by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Lithuania in accordance with the decision of the Department of Licensing and Registers of the State Service of Education Quality of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.  The educational process is provided by qualified academic staff. More than 80% of the academic staff have a Master's and Doctorate degree, or are applicants for a Scientific degree. Lecturers are involved in research work and various international projects and can participate in local and international conferences and congresses both in Latvia and abroad, as well as publish articles in international publications.  The Daugavpils Medical College promotes the further education of members of its academic staff by organizing professional development courses and seminars. Cooperation

  Daugavpils Medical College is a member of numerous cooperation agreements with Riga First Medical College. Cooperation with other medical colleges - LU P.Stradiņa Medical College, Riga LU Medical College, and Red Cross Medical College of RSU takes place in various fields of health-promoting and preventing diseases. The purpose of the cooperation is the promotion of student and academic staff research, conferences, seminars, etc. organization of events, as well as support for the exchange of students and academic staff between colleges. The college strengthens its cooperation with the largest universities in Latvia - Riga Stradins University, University of Latvia, and Daugavpils University in the fields of research, exchange of teaching staff, and succession of study programs.   It was established in 1991 in cooperation with Riga Technical University, the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) in the United States, and the University of Ottawa in Canada. RBS was the first institution in the Baltics to offer MBA programs in English.  Since 2012, Riga Business School has been offering a Bachelor of Management in International Business in collaboration with the BI Norwegian Business School. The school has more than 970 MBA graduates employed in managerial positions in Latvia and abroad. RBS offers an MBA curriculum featuring case studies and group work as well as classroom work. RBS is the only school in the Baltics offering North-American style MBA both in teaching standards and structure, containing intensive case studies, group work and active classroom involvement over at least two years of studies. International Cooperation

  The activities and partnership projects where Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia is involved are based on identified academic needs, according to study programs and expected learning outcomes for students. Therefore subject and geographical priorities are given to assure optimal benefits for project participants.  Under the Erasmus+, the University College currently has 45 Erasmus partners in 21 countries, offering exchange to students and staff in 4 professional higher education study programs – Nursing, Physician Assistant, Massage and Hydrotherapy, and Dispensing Optician. The partnerships are reviewed and evaluated, to strengthen each relationship.  The objective of participation in the Erasmus+ program is to continue the improvement of the quality and relevance of Health Care Education, high-skill professionalism, and research activities, and increase the competence and motivation of students and teachers. Participation in Erasmus+ projects is building awareness about different Health Care systems and equipping students and teachers with the skills that are necessary to meet all the future challenges of providing care in a transcultural society.

About Academy

  Rezekne Academy of Technologies is the state institution of education and scientific research that implements the study programs as well as is engaged in scientific, research, and artistic creative work in Rezekne, Latvia. It was established based on the branches of the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University.  Every year around 400 students enroll in the studying process at Rezekne Academy of Technologies and in total, more than 2000 students study on our campus. The size of the university allows close interaction between students and personnel in all stages of studies. Numerous international partners, cooperation agreements, and exchange programs for students and academic staff make a multicultural environment at the university. About Academy

  The Latvian Academy of Sports Education was founded on September 6, 1921, in Riga as the Latvian Institute of Physical Education, but in November 1991 it was renamed as the Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE). LASE is an accredited state higher education institution with English and Latvian medium of instruction. The Latvian Academy of Sport Education is a state higher education institution that realizes accredited study programs to train specialists in education and sport to work in state and municipal institutions and organizations. During the study process at LASE, all students receive the knowledge, skills, and capacities needed to direct and organize education, sport, health promotion, and other activities. In 2022 education work at the Academy was provided by 56 members of academic staff, including 17 Professors, 12 Associate Professors, 13 Assistant Professors, 6 Lecturers, 4 Assistants, 4 Leading Researchers, and Researchers, including 37 members of academic staff with having Scientific degree.

Research Units

Daugavpils University

About University

  Daugavpils University was founded in 1921 based on Teacher`s College in the city of Daugavpils, Latvia. DU received its present name on 13 October 2001. It has become the largest educational institution in Eastern Latvia and is a member of the European University Association and the European Union association of universities of small member states. Since 2004 it has benefited from EU Structural Funds for campus expansion and renovation. DU has received the Erasmus Higher Education Charter 2021-2027 which provides an opportunity to participate in all Erasmus + activities.   Latvia University of Science and Technology was established as the Agricultural Department at the Riga Polytechnical Institute in 1863.   The University of Latvia pays great attention to the development of international cooperation with foreign educational institutions, and private and state organizations to promote international identification, and exchanges and to strengthen a good reputation.
