Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Tomsk, Russia, is the oldest technical university in Russia east of the Urals. TPU was a member of 12 international associations, including the Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research (CESAER) until it was suspended in March 2022, and the European University Association (EUA) until it was suspended in March 2022.

The university was founded in 1896 and opened in 1900 as the Tomsk Technological Institute. It has a huge informational base in the university library and provides its students will all the needed studying process facilities. The university has more than 22,000 current students and has graduated more than 100,000 technical specialists in different fields of science.

University has a wide multicultural community. The quantity of international students is over 13,500 from 48 countries of the world. Accommodation 

 

Tomsk Polytechnic University provides its students with renovated apartments with convenient locations and needed facilities. The dormitory is located a 15-minute walk from the main TPU building and a big supermarket, 5 minute walk from the nearest food market and big shopping center, and 7 minutes by bus from the city center.

Students are accommodated in comfortable shared rooms for 2-3 people with shared bathrooms and WC. Each section (4 rooms) shares a shower and toilet. Each room is equipped with beds, tables, wardrobes, chairs, and bedside tables. The student is provided with a kettle, microwave, and TV/fridge. You can bring your computer with you. A direct internet connection is possible in every room and Wi-Fi are available in all dorm. The student is provided bed linen (changed every 10 days) and cooking utilities. In the dorm building students have permanent access to common kitchens and study rooms on each floor; a canteen is situated on the ground floor.

About City

 

Tomsk is located in the very heart of Siberia, about 3.6 thousand kilometers east of Moscow, on the border of the West Siberian Plain and the spurs of the Kuznetsk Alatau on the right bank of the Tom River, 50 km from the place of its confluence with the Ob River. The city is located on the edge of a taiga natural zone.

Tomsk is the oldest educational and scientific center in Siberia. Today, students make up one-fifth of the population of Tomsk – more than 117 thousand people. The wooden architecture of Siberia is a bright page in the history of Russian architecture. In Tomsk, wooden architecture is original and expressive. It is here that whole groups of wooden buildings of the late 19th – early 20th centuries have been preserved. You will need at least three days to explore a large number of local attractions.

Tomsk also is a place of education for over 50,000 young students. It is the main educational and research center of Siberia.
