About University 

Sokhumi State University is the first higher educational institution of Abkhazia’s autonomous republic – the direct legal successor of the Sokhumi State Pedagogical Institute. It is a centuries-old school that carries the Georgian educational traditions, and national and universally recognized values that determine multicultural systems’ firmness.

The mission of the university is to train specialists of different educational levels who have a university education corresponding to the world’s modern standards based on the main value of humanity – the latest scientific ideas, the receipt, and dissemination of education, which will have a high sense of civic responsibility for integration in a global society. The university’s doors are open to all students and professors despite their ethnicity, social background, and political and religious views. 

For Sokhumi State University, the priority is developing such important spheres and areas as Georgian studies, Abkhazian studies, teacher education, exact and natural, humanitarian and sociopolitical sciences, law, and business administration. At the same time, Sokhumi State University needs to implement interdisciplinary spheres, and short-term and effective programs to train highly qualified personnel relevant to the labor market, and competitive, modern requirements.

Sokhumi State University helps internationalization, continuity, sustainability, and accessibility of education; from this point of view of this, it is important to actively participate in educational programs and research projects together with various foreign partners, their support, which, for its part, will give international recognition to the Sokhumi State University.

Accommodation

Student Dormitory consists of eight rooms per floor, with 2-3 people per room. Each floor also has one kitchen and two toilets, and the basement has a shower. All rooms have access to free Wi-fi and are equipped with essential modern amenities like a pillow, blanket, bedsheet, beds, tables, and chairs that are already added to the basic necessity list. For student recreation gyms, reading rooms and sports complex facilities are also available.

Every hostel resident can use every common room in the building, including the library, gym, canteen, and resting rooms. All rooms are well-furnished and ready to use at every time and day.
