Odesa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture was a higher education establishment founded in 1930 as part of the Ukrainian education system. Since 1991 The Academy has been a member of the European and International Association of Universities, and in 2007 it signed the Bologna Convention.
The Academy consists of the Architectural Institute, the Construction Technological Institute, the Civil Engineering Institute, and the Institute of Engineering and Ecological Systems and has such faculties as Building, Economics and Construction Management, the Design of Industrial and Housing Construction, Hydro-technical and Transport Construction, the Center of Post-Diploma Education, the Center of specialists training for foreign countries, the Center of Pre-Academic Education that train specialists in such specialties as Painting, the Economy of Business, Marketing, Management, Building, Architecture, Hydro-techniques (Water-Supply), Geodesy, Card-Graphics, and Land Cadastre.
The Academy staff is made up of 585 teachers who work at 43 departments: 87 are professors and hold Doctorates of Science, 258 have a Ph.D., most of them are elected Academics of branch Academies and are also Laureates of State International Awards, Honored Statesmen of Science and Techniques, and workers of the Ukrainian Higher School.
Today, more than 9,000 students are educated at the Academy. The Academy has a powerful experimental base, close ties with modern buildings, and many designing organizations. Ten branches of the Academy are created on the concerns of Odessa. The educational process and scientific research in primarily scientific directions take place in specialized rooms, and scientific and laboratory complexes equipped with modern means of studying. The library that offers more than 500,000 copies of books in special literature and fiction is part of the student’s services.
The Academy has a powerful material and technical base, which meets the modern requirements of the training of specialists both Ukrainian and foreigners. In the academy, there are 5 dormitories for all students, as well as foreigners, the total area of which are 27,150 square meters.
All applicants for higher education who need it are provided with a dormitory. The Academy has five hostels in which there are rooms for work and rest, sports rooms with the appropriate equipment, a cafe and a library, and shower rooms. Living conditions correspond to sanitary and hygienic standards. Students live in an academic dormitory in rooms of 2 or 3 people. After settling in the hostel, the student receives a list of properties and a pass to the dormitory. For use, the student receives a sleeping place, essential dishes, recorded in the list of properties, as well as bed linen, curtains, bookshelves, etc.
For foreign students, the rules for living in a dormitory are provided in Ukrainian and English.
All foreign students are provided with places to stay in the dormitories of the Academy. For students who live in dormitories, in addition to organizing proper living, recreation, and leisure, a security system has been established at the Academy. For this purpose, on the territory of the academy and the campus, the guard of the academy maintains a round-the-clock watch, which ensures security and law and order.
The level of effective interaction with the staff of the Department of Social Security of Ukraine in the Odesa regions, who regularly hold explanatory conversations with foreigners, as well as provides timely information on their compliance with the current legislation of Ukraine, has been raised. This reduces the number of violations related to non-compliance with the current legislation governing the stay of foreigners on the territory of Ukraine. In addition, the territory on which the campus is located is included in the patrol route of the National Police of Ukraine, which oversees the protection of public order and the fight against offenses on the streets, squares, and parks in Odesa.
