About the University

 

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU) was founded in 1945. It is one of the largest universities in Poland, currently comprising 16 faculties (including 3 medical faculties at Collegium Medicum UMK in Bydgoszcz). 

The Nicolaus Copernicus University offers graduate and postgraduate courses for more than 18.000 students, providing study courses in over 100 fields of study and 55 postgraduate courses. The university employs 4453 staff members on both the Toruń and Bydgoszcz campuses. The university is among the Top Institutes to study medicine in Poland. QS World University Ranking has ranked NCU among the top 4% of universities across the globe.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University participates in student and staff exchange programs at both international (the Erasmus+ program, YUFE) and national (the MOST program) levels. Since 2020 NCU has been a member of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe alliance (YUFE) – one of the first European Universities. Exchanging programs allows the NCU community to take part in initiatives organized in 10 European countries both online and offline. 

Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz as a part of NCU provides medical education in 16 fields of study offered by three faculties. Higher education programmes in the fields of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, and laboratory medicine are offered in the English language. Collegium Medicum currently holds 10 accreditations issued by the Polish Accreditation Committee, the National Accreditation Commission for Nursing and Midwifery Education, and the Polish Ministry of Health. Jurasz Hospital Campus includes Hospital and Clinical teaching facilities and the Pharmacy Building. 

NCU is one of 10 Polish universities that has obtained the status of a research university. The objective of the “Excellence Initiative  Research University” program is to select and support the best Polish universities, which will be able to successfully compete with foreign institutions in the coming years.

The university participates in student and staff exchange programs at both international (the Erasmus+ program, YUFE) and national (the MOST program) levels. Exchanging programs allow the NCU community to take part in initiatives organized in 10 European countries both in physical and virtual forms at the same time while inviting foreigners to get more acquainted with NCU. The University Library holds an imposing collection of nearly 3 million printed volumes, periodicals, and special collection items. NCU campus hosts the Academic Centre for Arts and Culture ‘Od Nowa’, one of the oldest student clubs in Poland.

Accommodation 

 

The two university campuses in Toruń are Centrum (the Center Campus) and Bielany (the Bielany Campus). The university owns 11 dormitories for accommodations for over 3,000 students. Single rooms, double rooms, and triple rooms are provided with attached washrooms and fully furnished furniture. Special apartments are available for students with disabilities. All the students are free to use laundry services, bathrooms, free internet access, study rooms, and cupboards. 

Each room is equipped with a bed, desks, bookshelves, and chairs. It has a shower, a toilet, and a kitchenette fitted with some cupboards, a refrigerator, and an electric kettle shared by students. There is also a shared kitchen on every floor equipped with a gas cooker and a sink (hot & cold water). Sheets and a pillowcase are provided every month. The Internet network is available in all student dormitories (every room is connected to it for free).  

Student Life in Toruń

 

Toruń is a historical city on the Vistula River in north-central Poland. The Medieval Town of Toruń consists of three elements: the ruins of the Teutonic Castle, the Old Town, and the New Town. The charming Old Town of Torun is of such international importance that it has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its red-brick Gothic architecture resembles the historic district of Gdansk, but with a much different atmosphere as Torun proves to be much friendlier, cozier, and less spoiled by the influx of visitors. Its lively center is full of diverse cafes and pubs, offering a refreshing stop after sightseeing. Torun specializes in traditional gingerbread that will give your stay an additional, spicy flavor.
