About University

 

Shota Rustaveli State University is one of the leading higher education institutions, whose mission is to prepare a highly qualified, competitive specialist, a free person carrying national and universal values, become a strong educational-research center and take an important place in the national and international educational space. 

The university is implementing educational programs of academic higher education, fundamental and applied research aimed at sustainable development of the country, social welfare of the population, ecological safety, and economic strength, as well as liberal values and establishment of democratic principles. 

The University understands its special importance in the development of the region and considers as its priority the study of South-West Georgian culture and the Black Sea biology and ecology as well as phytopathological research and the development of agriculture and tourism. The Medical Education and the Clinical Doctor Professional Development Centre ensure teaching and learning based on practical skills through modern teaching/learning methods, theoretical lectures, and seminars as well as applications. The Centre also provides continuing medical education and the development of qualifications. 

Since 2016 University dental clinic “BSU Denti” is functioning at BSU where different kinds of dentistry cabinets are equipped for practicing dental training. The cabinets are equipped with Advanced Technologies. BSU Dent” started receiving patients in February 2017 and is now carrying out various dental services. There is a 20% discount on dentistry services for students.

Research Priorities

  • Survey of diseases of significant crops: Annual disease surveys of crop fields and plantations; determining disease incidence and severity, sampling;
  •  Diagnostics of crop diseases: Registration of samples, isolation of pathogens from disease samples, identification and authentification of fungal, bacterial, and viral pathogens by classical methods;
  • Population genetics: Study of pathogenicity and virulence of major crop pathogens; identification of virulence structures of wheat rusts, cereal powdery mildews, etc.; measurement of changes in virulence of populations; providing a highly cost-effective opportunity to determine the risk presented by pathogen races;
  • Immunological assessment: Evaluating cereal germplasm for different diseases under natural and artificial infection by using field and glasshouse studies. Identification of new sources of resistance for recommendation in breeding programs;
  • Molecular Biology: Introducing and using new molecular biology methods for improved plant diseases diagnosis and screening of virulence markers and assessment of the genetic diversity of pathogens;
  • National Collection of Plant Pathogens: The collection includes a panel of plant pathogens, mainly fungi important both nationally and regionally;

Accommodation 

 

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University students are served by the four-story dormitory of the modern standards foreseen for 200 tenants. The building fully complies with modern standards; it is constructed based on the block principle construction and is equipped with separate wet points and a kitchen.

The dormitory houses a conference hall, free spaces, a library, an elevator, a security office, a laundry-drying room, etc.; the blocks adjusted to the people with special needs are also envisaged. Students can settle in the dormitory twice a year: at the beginning of the fall and the spring semesters within the time frame defined by the Order of the Head of Administration.
