About University

 

Almaty Management University is a world-class private university famous in Kazakhstan and abroad. Operation for 34 years in the education market, ALMA is the oldest private university in the country, the first business school of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a pioneer of business education in CIS. According to a new strategy of AlmaU, in 2014 the university took a course to create a model of an entrepreneurial university. 

Among the biggest University achievements are teaching management the first Kazakhstan entrepreneurs, the first MBA and DBA programs in Kazakhstan, the best academic staff, and in-demand graduates. The University provides general education on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, outreach, upskilling and reskilling, capacity building on various topics in humanities and social science, arts and IT, and other important areas, such as economics, law, technology, human rights, ecology, climate change, sustainability, and many more. 

There are 9 Schools, 4 Centers, the Institute for Education Development, and AlmaU Extension (executive education): Graduate School of Business, School of Management, School of Economics and Finance, School of Politics and Law, School of Digital Technologies, School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, School of Hospitality and Tourism, School of Media and Film, AlmaU Sharmanov School of Health Sciences, Urban Center, Center for Creative Industries, Sports Management Center, Language Center.

Classes are conducted in English, in more than 20 specialties, including management, finance, marketing, restaurant and hotel business, regional studies, software engineering, business analytics, big data, etc. AlmaU has representative offices in the cities of Astana, Atyrau, Aktau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, and Shymkent. The main direction in the work of representative offices is the training of heads of small and medium businesses on MBA and DBA programs, as well as seminars and training.

Accreditations and Rankings

 

AlmaU is one of few Universities in Kazakhstan, which is recognized and has accreditations and awards from Kazakhstan and international level. Accreditation as a subject of educational and scientific activity of the Ministry of Education and Science (currently – Ministry of Science and Higher Education) of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

MBA programs of AlmaU Graduate School of Business are the only ones in Central Asia and Kazakhstan accredited by AMBA, UK. In 2021 the Graduate School of Business and the School of Hospitality and Tourism of AlmaU officially received the results of joint accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and Business Graduates Association (BGA), two of the world’s leading organizations in business education (2021-2026). The Graduate School of Business and the School of Hospitality and Tourism of AlmaU are accredited by Business Graduates Association (BGA) (2021-2026). 

Institutional accreditation of an Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA) for a period of 5 years (2019-2024).

Accommodation

 

International students should think about accommodation before their arrival in Almaty because there are only 3 days for registration of foreign students according to Kazakhstan Law. At AlmaU, we want to provide you with a home away from home, where you will feel comfortable and supported.  

The University has hostels on campus for first-year students. The upper-year students can go to the apartments and others stay in the city. The hostels have limited seats, so it’s better to apply for them early. The hostels provide furnished rooms with internet facilities. Students can also share a room to reduce their rent. The rent includes heating, water, power, internet connection, and use of a common kitchen. Pillows, blankets, and covers are provided too.
