About University

The National University of Pharmacy is a domestic center of pharmaceutical education and science development, which occupies a leading place in the realization of public policy in training a new generation of highly skilled specialists and implementation of competitive scientific developments for the science-intensive pharmaceutical industry. The University creates conditions for deep scientific training of high-qualification specialists on the principles of education and science cooperation.

The National   University of Pharmacy founded in 1805 as the pharmaceutical department of the Kharkiv Emperor University is the main pharmaceutical higher educational establishment in Ukraine with rich scientific traditions and history.

The National University of Pharmacy is a modern European institution of higher education of IV accreditation level. In 2005 the university celebrated its bicentenary from the date of its establishment.

The National University of Pharmacy is the only higher educational establishment of pharmaceutical profiles in our state. Its evolution has provided the development of national pharmaceutical schools, science, production, and the whole pharmaceutical industry of our country. In 1921 based on the Proposal of prominent Kharkiv scientists the first and the only in Ukraine Kharkov pharmaceutical institute (KhPhI) was founded by Health Care Narkomat and Golovnauk Resolution. At different times outstanding scientists worked in the Kharkiv pharmaceutical institute: M.O. Valyashko, M.S. Bokarius, M.P. Krasovskiy, A.D. Rozenfeld, G.Ye. Mukhin, O.I. Cherkes, Ye.S. Khotynskiy, Yu.G.Borysyuk, P.O.Petyunin.

The University has an advanced material and technical basis which equals 105000 square meters and meets the requirements of world education quality standards. There are 6 university buildings and 5 hostels.

Research

Scientists of the University have created 140 new medicines and substances. Among them such national brands such as Levomecol, Levosin, Cratal, Diacamph, Clorophylliptum, etc. The National University of Pharmacy is an honorary member of such esteemed international associations as follows: Magna Charta Universitatum, the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP), and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

The educational process is provided by 52 departments, where 830 lecturers work, 85% of them have scientific degrees. There are 72 Doctors of sciences, about 400 assistant professors and candidates of sciences, 15 academicians and associate members of National and branch Academies of Sciences of Ukraine, 5 members of the New York Academy of Sciences, 14 Honored scientists and technicians of Ukraine among them. Training the scientific professionals for foreign countries we invite people who wish to continue their scientific research to post-graduate study. Post-graduate training is by contract and is carried out in the following specialties:

Post-graduate training is conducted for 3 years, full-time (3 years), and part-time (4 years) form of study. After finishing the post-graduate training successfully and scientific thesis defense, the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the field of pharmacy is confirmed.  Journals: “Clinical Pharmacy”, “News of Pharmacy”, and “Organic and pharmaceutical chemistry” are published in the National University of Pharmacy. Publications of these journals are recognized by the highest attestation commission in Ukraine.

Education for International Students 

Nowadays more than 16 000 students study at University, among them approximately 100 foreigners. Foreign students have been trained since 1965, and for these years University has prepared more than 4 000 professionals in the field of pharmacy for 73 countries of the world. In the NUPh foreign citizens can get an education in Russian, Ukrainian, or English. The Duration of study in Russian and Ukrainian is 6 years (the 1st year of study at the preparatory faculty). The duration of study in English is 5 years.

Accommodation

University possesses 5 hostels with a total area of 28431 sq. m for the accommodation of 2220 students.

The International Office guarantees accommodation placement services to all international students who receive an academic offer. There are several accommodation options for international students and it is important to consider whether you prefer an independent lifestyle or enjoy living in a community.  Combine the convenience of living on or near campus, access to programs and services to help you excel academically, the opportunity to build lasting friendships, and comfortable, affordable living. You have the life of a University. The territory of the University and the main students’ routes from the hostels to the educational buildings are protected and patrolled by officers of guard service.

All rooms in hostels are provided with internet facilities. Hostel No.5 is provided with a free internet facility.  Hostel No.5 is equipped with a wi-fi zone. Students can use a laptop, wi-fi phone, or another suitable portable device to access the wireless internet connection provided. Rooms on campus are available to students. All hostel rooms are furnished and vary in size and number of conveniences. Dormitory rooms at a hostel can accommodate 2 or 3 students to a room.
